why “ruby light portraits”?

I wanted to choose a name that wasn’t First Name – Last Name – Photography. I’ve always liked the name ‘Ruby’ and  Light relates to photography. I chose ‘Portraits’ to best describe what I do. I also wanted to have quite a visual sounding name so that it was easy to remember. I have a range of high quality dresses, outfits and props as well as a studio in a central location with parking nearby

I’m Rachel the photographer behind Ruby Light Portraits and I’m passionate about empowering women through photography. Every woman has the right to feel gorgeous and exist in beautiful photographs that can be treasured for a lifetime.

My photoshoots are an experience that I don’t like to rush. When you come to a session with me, it’ll be relaxed and you’ll have plenty of time for outfit changes, different looks, setups and for me to get the very best results from your session.

I’m very lucky to have a team of very experienced, talented and skilled hair & makeup artists who all focus on enhancing and highlighting your best features. 
It really is the best way to start your session – my makeup artists are not only incredible at what they do, they are also passionate about making sure that you have a great experience, helping you feel and look amazing and strive to make the start of your session a relaxing and enjoyable one. They are sensitive to the fact that some shoots may feel a little daunting and aim to provide support and encouragement when needed.

Gem has worked with me for many years, her passion is creating hair & makeup looks that enhance her client’s natural beauty and never overpowers. She is very easy to talk to and has a great sense of humour!

CHARLOTTE SWAN – THE SASSY SWAN

Charlotte has been with me pretty much since the beginning. I was doing a practice shoot on one of her best friends and when she arrived her hair & makeup looked so incredible (by Charlotte) that I just had to approach her to see if she would like to join me, and she’s been with me ever since! Aside from her beautiful style of makeovers, I love how ladies so often open up to Charlotte about their lives and she gives such sound advice. She is a single Mum raising the most wonderful and mischievous little boy and a huge ambassador for ladies in general.
“Hi Everyone. I’ve been in the hair and beauty industry for over 30 years. I began my career as a hairdresser working Saturdays in a busy city centre salon In Poole when I was still at School. I always had a dream of being a Makeup artist. I trained in London as a hair extensionist in 2002 with the luxury brand Great Lengths. Since then I have pursued my dream to do makeup and extended this into beauty treatments to compliment what I do. I love the fact my days are so varied!”

Sachelle Ward – Glam Ward

Sasha was recommended to me by other MUAs back in the early days and she just fitted in so well immediately! She is so easy to talk to and I just love her makeover style.

I’ve worked on T.V shows such as Doc Martin, Delicious, & other BBC projects, I’ve even been lead hair & makeup on my first feature film, with even a stint in Theatre. I offer beautiful portraits for all stages of your life…whether you are a new or expectant mum and want to capture that incredibly special time, a family wanting to get that all important portrait while the children are still little, a bride-to-be looking for a special gift for their partner or to make the most of your wedding lingerie and other accessories! Or if you’re looking for a way to become more body confident, a boudoir session could be perfect for you.

Most of my sessions also include a makeover by a professional make-up artist. This can be as natural or as glamorous as you like! Pregnant ladies and mums especially love having some time to themselves to be pampered and feel more confident about having their picture taken at this stage of their lives when they may not be feeling at their best.

I also have a collection of dresses and outfits that are available for photoshoots and can take the pressure off choosing what to wear!
A lot of ladies tell me that they don’t think that they’re photogenic, they need to lose some weight, they would prefer to have photographs of just their children, that they avoid the camera or feel awkward in front of it. This makes me so sad! It’s my job to fully guide you through poses that will flatter you, to make you relax and feel comfortable in front of the camera. I want you to reconnect with that gorgeous woman within you and have photographs of yourself that you will treasure for a lifetime’
